UK media has reignited their interest on British produced gold with the recent news of Prince Harry's impending wedding as well as the popularity of the Netflix TV series The Crown.

This could be the main reason why various media and newspaper coverage has centered on the news that Clogau St David, an abandoned gold mine in Bontddu of north Wales could be re-opened in 2018.

Gold from Clogau had been used in the making of Edward VIII's crown, scepter, ring and sword back in 1911, as well as rings used in the wedding of 3 generations of royals including Queen Mother, the Queen , Princess Margaret and Princess Diana.

Due to its diminishing production, Clogau was closed back in 1998. However in December of 2017, the London based ALBA Mineral Resources announced their acquisition of 49% stake in Gold Mine of Wales Limited, who owns Clogau, and their intention to re-start this project due to the vast unexplored potentials of the mine. Conditions of this deal also included large gold targets as well as promised early works on the 106.94 square kilometer of the total selected mining area.

The goal is to initiate additional exploration of the area and re-open Clogua in to production. Alba has stated that they will operate this mining project and will utilize their expertise to assist Gold Mine s of Wales Limited in expediting its' strategic growth.

The first step is detailed sample collection and underground structure surveying and mapping in order to modernize its geological interpretation. Both Companies hope to conduct aerial magnetic mapping and electromagnetic measurements of areas with highest reserve potentials in Clogua mine and surrounding areas. It's their hopes that more detailed exploration of the area can discover un-mined and un-drilled markers leading to additional finds.

According to spokesperson from Alba, there's great potential to discover additional veins with gold content similar to quality of previously produced by Clogua.  Their CEO Mr. George Frangeskides has also stated the opportunity this project presents is very unique, as a high quality gold mine in the heart of UK, gold produced in Wales can attract large scale premiums.

Since the 19th Century, north Wales has produced a total of approximately 131,000ounces of gold, 81,000 of which came from Clogua.
